Field size is set by the soil test and the number of bedrooms. Soil testing is priced separately and credited back, minus the health district fee, when we install the system. Know the signs

Signs your field is struggling.

A leach field fails slowly. Catch these early and a repair may be all it needs.

Wet or spongy ground

Standing water or soft soil over the field, even when it has not rained.

Bright green stripes

Grass growing faster in lines over the field means effluent is close to the surface.

Slow drains after pumping

If the house still drains slowly right after a pump-out, the field may not be taking water.

Sewage odor outside

A smell over the field or near the distribution box.

How it works

Test. Repair. Or rebuild.

We prove what is wrong before we price a new field.

  1. 01

    Inspect

Pump the tank, film the lines and open the distribution box.

  2. 02

    Repair

Jet the lines or replace the box when that fixes the flow.

  3. 03

    Design

If the field has failed, soil testing and an engineered design come next.

  4. 04

    Rebuild

We install the new field, pass inspection and seed the yard.

Questions

Leach field repair, answered.

Answers from licensed plumbers and septic installers. Still unsure? Call East CT at (860) 292-0484.

How much does a new leach field cost in Connecticut?
At Drainworks, engineered replacement fields start from $16,822 for a 495 ELA field, and from about $28,465 for 1,155 to 1,320 ELA. Your soil test and the number of bedrooms set the size.
Can a leach field be repaired instead of replaced?
Often, yes. Jetting the lines (from $2,200) or replacing a tipped distribution box (from $750) restores many fields that look like they have failed.
What is ELA?
Effective leaching area. It is how Connecticut sizes leach fields. Slower soils and bigger houses need more ELA.
How long does a leach field replacement take?
Installation usually takes a few days once the design is approved by your health district. Design and approval come first.
Is there a discount for a complete system?
Yes. A new tank and leach field installed together is $500 off.
